Today I wanted to take some time to mediate on the speed at which we intake and output things from our minds. We’ve been searching out mindfulness on our Tuesdays together over at Holy Beautiful so today instead of focusing on what particular information is going in I want to focus on the speed at which it’s coming in and out.
“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”
James 1:19-20 ESV
In a world where speed is everything- where we are always seeking the fastest, most efficient, quickest point from A to B. Where a quick and witty retort is reposted a million times and a foolish reaction is too often forgiven as “premature”, sisters we have lost the tempo of what God tells us should be on our minds.
Quick to go in- methodical, thoughtful, discerning.
Slow to leak out- methodical, thoughtful, discerning.
We can be wise at both speeds.
Today take some time with the Father and let Him show you the speeds at which your hearing, speaking, and reacting are at. Are they too fast? Too slow? Reversed in a foolhardy direction? What tempo is your mind dealing in and out?
